Summer Sangha Youth Gathering 2015

For the very first time, young people between 15-25 years old gathered here for a Youth Summer Sangha to experience spirituality in the everyday life of our Centre here at Shree Peetha Nilaya
Part of the program consisted of our workshop on creative painting. You can see some of the beautiful artwork being done below:

Over 45 students participated in our Bhakti Marga Art Creative Painting Course.

It was for me, personally, a great experience to teach and to support so many talented and interested young girls and boys.

After this course, I hope that some of them might be more interested in doing this kind of painting in the future and in supporting Swami Vishwananda's plan to develop and expand spiritual artwork.

Development of an Iconostasis

Recently the Bhakti Marga art team was asked to plan and create an iconostasis. An iconostasis is a wall with large icon paintings, separating the sanctuary from the nave. In our case the iconostasis has a surface of 2,41 meters height and 4,55 meters width.

In a first step an exact plan is established, the composition with the pictures is drawn und the wooden panels are cut to size.

Then follows the enlargement of the icons and the drawings, as well as the grounding of the wooden panels.

Hereafter you see the different stages in the artistic work. A group of 4-5 artists has worked intensively during the last 3 months on this lovely religious project.

In tranquillity and prayer emerges this iconostasis which will be placed in a church in order to inspire many people to prayer and silent devotion.

In a further report we will show you the last work stages until completion of this iconostasis.

Learing the technique of Gilding in the Atelier

For a special order of an ikonostasis we painted the halo of the Saints using the old technique of real oil gilding. The technique of oil gilding involves the application of a base coat of oil varnice on which the gold leafs is appliced.

Our restaurator has offered to show and to teach us the classical way of gilding.

This precious old technique gives more beauty to every painting and makes icons more shiney.

This elaborate technique needs a lot of pation, concentration and skill.

Our small group were very happy to spend time together making new experiencies in creative work for Gurujis Art Projects.
